Choline plays a role in early brain development during pregnancy and infancy – especially in the areas used for memory and learning. In January 2018, evidence from Cornell University were published stating that infants who are exposed to higher levels of maternal choline (930mg/day) during the 3rd trimester have improved information processing speed during the first year of life.

Lutein on the other hand is associated with eye health, but recent studies discovered lutein’s role in cognition as well. Why lutein is important for cognition remains a bit unclear, but it may be related to their anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties.

Given that Lutein can only be obtained through consumption, it remains important to add sources of lutein to your diet in order to keep your eyes and brain healthy.
