Strange egg remedies from the past
Etmullerus Abridg’d: or, a Compleat System of the Theory and Practice of Physic, published in 1699, lists a number of uses for the different parts of an egg. The yolks are good for tooth sensitivity; the cooked whites are good for “numness of the teeth.” Paronychia (an infection of the nail bed or cuticle) can be cured by placing the finger inside a newly laid egg. Bladder stones can be cured by placing the penis into a mixture of egg whites, human milk, and camphor.
